In the headphones a voice whispers 'Stand very close together. You are now so close, you can smell each other and feel each other's body heat.' We hadn't told you beforehand, but you will be dancing with people you do not know. You didn't know you would end up in a choreography you've never danced before. Because you share this experience with us, together we form a larger network we are all part of. Together we build beautiful things.
'PLAY CROWD' is an immersive performance game in which choreography and sound play a prominent role. The boundary between performers and audience is crossed: the audience is 90% the performer of this show. At a time when shared experience, solidarity and human interaction are more necessary than ever, the audience dances together. 'PLAY CROWD' is a choreographic approach to the phenomenon of crowds.
The crowd absorbs people and evokes strong emotions in individuals, who are part of the mass. We are designed to feel a certain amount of excitement when we are in a crowd. Whether we like it or not, our senses are on edge when we are in a large group and it actually feels good. The mass is the place where the human animal transforms into a social being through encounters with strangers. 'PLAY CROWD' plays with the concept that trivial encounters with unfamiliar people in our lives can evoke feelings of happiness and human connection.
