No Spoffin Spin-Off this year

There will be no new edition of Spoffin Spin-Off in 2026. The festival organizers have announced this after discussions with the municipality of Amersfoort. Due to a change in the subsidy regulations, the municipality could not process the application for this year's edition. Consequently, the organizers have decided to cancel the festival.

Spoffin Spin-Off was first organized in 2025 as a successor to the street theater festival Spoffin. Since 2010, Spoffin has grown into a leading international festival for street and site-specific theater. Every year, the festival brings dozens of performances by (inter)national artists to Amersfoort's city center, where audiences and artists meet in an informal and inspiring atmosphere.

In 2024, it was announced that Spoffin would not receive a multi-year subsidy for 2025-2028. After this decision, it seemed the festival would disappear for good. However, based on the enormous success of the last edition, the organizers began exploring alternatives last year. This became Spoffin Spin-Off, the new version of Spoffin with a smaller format and a greater focus on Dutch talent, the first edition of which took place on August 30, 2025.

The Spoffin Spin-Off team had hoped to stage a second edition this year during the last weekend of August, but due to the loss of funding this year, this is unfortunately not possible. The organization is taking the time to consider a sustainable future for Spoffin and Spoffin Spin-Off. "We want to preserve the value of street and location-based theatre for creators, audiences, and volunteers, and together with the team, we are exploring how this can be achieved in a sustainable way," says the board of the Zomertheater Amersfoort Foundation.

The Spoffin Spin-Off organization, which, along with Amersfoorts Theater Terras, is part of the Zomertheater Amersfoort Foundation, is in positive discussions with the Municipality of Amersfoort about the future of outdoor theatre in the city. Theater Terras will perform four performances at unique locations throughout the summer. As soon as there is more clarity about Spoffin Spin-Off's next steps, the organization will communicate this through its usual channels.
