Spoffin announces line up 2023 and new visual identity

 01-07-2023

Spoffin presents the program for the festival on August 25, 26, and 27 in the city center of Amersfoort. During the thirteenth edition of Spoffin, there will be 26 dazzling acts from both national and international artists. The entire festival is open, but the audience is asked to a contribution after each performance.

Like every year, the festival has a focus country. This year, Italy was chosen as the focus country because the country has made tremendous progress in the field of street and location theater in recent years.

"Italy is currently emerging from the desert in terms of street theater," says Alfred Konijnenbelt, artistic director of Spoffin. "In the time of Berlusconi and the years after, Italy's cultural offerings became very shallow and superficial. It became a bit like Disney style: everything was very literal, spelled out, in your face. But a few years ago, there was renewed attention to circus and street theater. This has led to a new flourishing within these disciplines, and this year we are reaping the benefits."

Italian artists

Cecilia Rosso will delight the audience in Amersfoort with her performance "Frammenti#1," in which she explores how multiple personalities can coexist using a contemporary circus. Circo in Rotta tells the story of a friendship that has bound two women together for more than fifteen years in their performance "Tienimi Che Ti Tengo."

Italian artist Luigi Cotta critically notes our meat consumption through object theater, using a comedic, grotesque, and dreamlike style. The eccentric Mr. Moustache sees love everywhere and expresses it through nostalgic street theater. Teatro Necessario opens a theatrical hair salon with "Nuova Barberia Carloni."

Premieres and local talent

There are also performances by 666 Entertainment, Ana Jordão & Vincent Kollar, Barbara Probst, Collectief DansBlok, Company TiNaNiNaNi, ConTakt, Daryl & Co and Mimbre, De Vliegende Koffer, Directe & Co, Eléctrico 28, FreeDOM City, Joe Garbett Dance, Man in Pak Producties, R405, Raimonda Gudavičiūtė, Rita Carmo Martins & Mickael Kochalski, and Sharon Fridman. In many cases, these are Dutch premieres. The complete program will be available on the website www.spoffin.nl from July 1st.

Spoffin is also bringing local acts (back) to Amersfoort this year. The 19-year-old Estrella Smith, who was performing last year during the show from De Luie Honden, will now present her dance performance. Jori Hermsen and Theater Gajes, together with the Theater Vooropleiding Amersfoort, will create the performance "Waterland," and the youth circus Cie CA will perform "Tussen Ons."

New visual identity

There is more news: Spoffin has a new visual identity. Studio DDO from Amersfoort has worked hard to reshape the visual identity of Spoffin. Under the motto "A city full of surprises," Studio DDO has ensured that surprises can be found everywhere in the new design. The characteristic purple color that Spoffin has used for years has been given a fresher shade.

Amersfoorts Theater Terras is also embracing the new style to maintain recognition as the sister organization of Spoffin. Theater Terras will take place once this year, on August 12. More information about that will follow soon.
