The countdown has now really started: in less than two months it will be time for the twelfth edition of Spoffin, thé festival for street and location theater. From August 26 to 28, Spoffin will turn the center of Amersfoort upside down with no fewer than twenty-seven dazzling acts from home and abroad. You can now discover which acts these are this year on the festival's website, social media and app.

Every year Spoffin chooses a focus country and this year the focus is on Germany. 'At first glance, this may not be the most obvious country,' says artistic director Alfred Konijnenbelt, 'but something is going on. After a long period of inactivity, circus has come of age in Germany in recent years. And in its wake, the street theater is growing again and we see very original performances being created. Often in collaboration with makers from other countries, because the Neue Welle mainly originates from international courses in Rotterdam, Tilburg and Brussels, among others.'

Salto Robotale
‘We would like to show you a few of the newest things,' continues Konijnenbelt, 'with the top line being the production Salto Robotale by UliK, which will have its Dutch premiere during Spoffin. We have known the Chinese pole for years, the iron pole in which acrobats climb at lightning speed and let themselves down again. UliK goes a step further by attaching the pole to a robot arm that can rotate and tilt in all directions. Very spectacular.' In addition to Salto Robotale, there are also two shorter acts by UliK.

From brand new to a classic: 2CV - Ente Gut, Alles Gut by Bängditos has been on Spoffin's wish list for years, a real audience performance with a simple story and cool effects. Between these extremes, the German focus program includes productions of Knot on Hands (dance that ends in a large knot of bodies), Aramelo's trampoline stunts, Manibus Pedibus' poetic clowning and Matthias Romir's black humor. "A concise cross-section of German street theatre."

A special mention goes out to the location performance Excursie Thuishaven by De Luie Honden, specially made for Spoffin, in which the audience is given a glimpse into the lives of the birds of paradise of Amersfoort. Other highlights include the hip-hop dance battles of Free-DOM City from Utrecht, and the heavy metal fanfare Blaas of Glory, which have become much more musical and tight since their first Spoffin performance in 2015 without losing any of the fun.

VKZ Spoffin Off Award
Twelve international groups will compete for the VKZ Spoffin OFF Award, which aims to stimulate talented young street artists to take the next step. The winner of this prize, made possible by main sponsor VKZ, may come and create a new performance in 2023 during a residency in the Eemhuis (thanks to Scholen in de Kunst). A selection of the names: Anna Krazy from Estonia, Duo Laos from Spain, Firebirds from Hungary, INO Kollektiv and Le Grand Jeté from France, TwoMuch Circus and Wonderground from Spain.

A special guest in the Spoffin OFF program is Suprun & Co, created especially for Spoffin by the Ukrainian puppeteer Alyona Suprun, who fled the heavily under fire city of Kharkov in February this year and has lived in the Netherlands ever since.
