Among the highlights of the festival, artistic director Alfred Konijnenbelt considers the new, spectacular show Guateque by the Catalan-Spanish company Delrevés, a Dutch première during Spoffin. Delrevés performs "vertical dance" at high altitude, on the highest church tower in the medieval town of Amersfoort. Also the presentation of Reject Your Soul, created bij Psilicone Theatre from Lithuania, with live music by Jazzator from Moscow, is exceptional interesting, as well as the specially for Spoffin developed presentation An.Ki by the Amsterdam group Progression, whose free running stunts already made furore in dozens of films and commercials.
There is really al lot happening and going on during this third edition of Spoffin, Konijnenbelt says. A few names? Festival favorites De Jongens (NL), Holland's Got Talent and Don't Stop me Now (GB) winners DDF Crew (BE), poetic circus theatre by Tent (NL/BE/FI), disrupting madness of Murmuyo y Metrayeta (CL) and Adrian Schvarzstein (ES), virtuous modern juggling by Matthias Romir (DE), fire dancing of Magma Firetheatre (HU) and irresistible music like Orchestre International du Vetex (BE/NL) and Orchestre Infernal (NL). The program of this third edition includes a lot of contemporary street and location theatre as well as urban dance, circus, installations and music.
One third of all the artists are from the Netherlands, the rest come from all over Europe and beyond. Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Russia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland are represented.
Spoffin again has organised an IN and OFF programming. The IN program is the main part of the festival, with an exciting balance between accessible and more experimental forms of theatre. The OFF program consists of performances and artwork by young, promising talents from the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.
New this year is the festival restaurant Spoffin creates, like an open backstage, an eat & meet open to the public, artists, festival co-workers and theatre professionals, who are invited for the PRO program, including workshops, presentations and pitches.
The festival opens Thursday, August 23 with Spoffin Amuses in Theater De Flint, where the public gets a nice preview of the program. About 15 groups will present short pieces of their shows.
